- Safety training comes first. Federal rules (30 CFR Part 48) require new-miner training before you work: at least 40 hours for underground and 24 hours for surface miners. Many employers provide it when they hire you. Look it up in Pocket 30 CFR
- Contractors hire too. Many jobs at mine sites are with the contractors and suppliers listed above, not only the mine owners.
