Browsing is open to everyone — no account needed to search the business directory, read classifieds, find garage sales, or check the events calendar. You only need a free account when you want to post something, contact a seller, apply to jobs faster, or vote in Best of Elko County. Creating one takes about a minute.

On the sign-in page, click "Forgot your password?" and enter your email. You'll get a reset link within a couple of minutes — check your spam folder if it doesn't show up.

Free: browsing everything, creating an account, posting classifieds, and adding community events to the calendar.

Paid: business directory subscriptions (with a free basic tier), garage sale listings, job posts, and optional event "boosts." All payments run through Stripe — we never see or store your card number.

Head to the pricing page and pick a plan — there's a free tier to get started. You'll get a dashboard to manage your photos, hours, description, and coupons anytime.

We pre-list many well-known local businesses. If yours is one of them, use the claim your business page and we'll verify you're the owner. Once claimed, it's yours to manage.

Really free. Post your ad with photos, mark it sold when it sells, renew it if it expires. Our classifieds are free because we'd rather be the place the county actually checks.

Never. Buyers use the contact form on your ad, and we relay their message to your email — your address stays hidden until you choose to reply. You can also show a phone number if you want tap-to-reveal calls.

Every paid sale gets pinned on the county map. Shoppers check the sales they want, and the route builder puts them in smart driving order and opens turn-by-turn directions in Google Maps. Post your sale by Thursday so weekend planners see it.

The day after your sale ends, the listing comes down and your photos are permanently deleted from our servers — automatically. Nothing lingers online.

Applicants fill out a short form on your job post — with an optional resume — and the whole application lands in your email, ready to reply to. Resumes are emailed and immediately deleted from our servers; nothing to log into, nothing stored.

30 days by default. When it expires you'll get an email with your post's stats (views and applications) and a one-click link to repost if you're still hiring.

Submit it here — it's free for community events. Most submissions are approved the same day, and you'll get an email the moment it's live. Want extra attention? A small boost pins your event to the top with a gold highlight until it ends.

Tap "Claim this deal" on the listing (you'll need a free account — takes a minute). You'll instantly get a deal ticket: a short code and a QR code, and we email you a copy so it's in your pocket when you get to the store.

At the counter, just show the ticket. Staff either scan the QR with their phone or type their store PIN right on your screen — and the deal is yours. Each ticket is one per customer, so once it's redeemed, it's been used.

Claiming deals is completely free for shoppers — all you need is a free elkolocal.com account. Some deals have a limited quantity ("first 50 only"), shown right on the listing, so if a deal you want has a countdown, don't sleep on it.

Deals are part of the paid directory plan. From your business dashboard you post a deal in seconds — headline, optional expiration date, optional redemption cap. Customers claim it and get secure one-per-customer tickets.

When they come in, your staff redeem tickets one of two ways: scan the ticket's QR code with any phone (if you're logged in, it's one tap), or type your 4-digit staff PIN on the customer's phone — no special equipment, no training. Your dashboard shows every deal's claimed and redeemed counts plus a time-stamped redemption log, so you always know exactly how many customers your deals brought through the door. Used tickets can't be redeemed twice.

The talent pool is optional — completely separate from applying to jobs. If you choose to join, you upload your resume and we scan it for skills (MSHA, CDL, nursing, trades, and more). Local employers searching those skills see an anonymous match: your skills and how recently you updated — never your name or contact info.

Only verified local businesses with a paid account can download your actual resume. You can delete yours anytime with one click, and it automatically expires after 90 days unless you renew (we email you first). Applying to a job posting still works the old way: your application goes straight to that employer and nothing is stored.

Two common reasons. First, the scan looks for specific certifications and trades — if your resume says "worked at a mine" but never says MSHA, haul truck, or your actual ticket names, the scanner can't know. The fix is easy: on your My Resume page, tap any skill in the list to add it yourself — you know yourself better than any scanner, and your choices stick. You can also add your own free-text tags ("jumbo operator," "night shift") that employers can search. Second, scanned or photographed resumes can't be read — export a text-based PDF or Word file instead of a picture of paper.

Type or tap the skills you need — we have nearly a thousand, organized by category, and you can search any keyword beyond them ("Spanish," "night shift") against every resume's full text. We instantly show how many local candidates match: how many have every skill you picked, and how many have at least one. Those counts are free for everyone.

Downloading resumes takes either a download package (single, 5-pack, 10-pack, or an unlimited 30-day pass — prices are on the page) or a paid directory plan, which includes unlimited downloads forever. Candidates stay anonymous until you download; the resume file contains their contact info as they wrote it. The pool self-cleans — resumes expire after 90 days unless renewed — so every match is someone recently looking.

Create a free account, head to Share a Photo, and upload — the Rubies, main street, your ranch, wildlife, weather. Add a caption, pick the town and a category, and it goes to a quick review (usually same-day) before appearing in the gallery with your name on it.

Good to know: we automatically strip hidden location data (GPS coordinates) from your photo file for your privacy, big files are resized for you, and each person can share up to five photos a day. Tap the ♥ on any photo you love — and use the Copy link button in the viewer to text a favorite straight to someone.

Local businesses can buy clean banner spots — never more than two per page — in four sizes of reach: town-targeted (your banner runs with a chosen town's business listings, garage sales, events, classifieds, and job posts), a single page of your choice, the whole county (every page), or the homepage, our premium spot. Everything is self-serve on the Advertise page, which always shows current prices — upload your banner, pay securely, and it goes live after a quick review. Campaigns run 30 days, and you watch your own live view and click counts the whole time.

Sometimes — and we tell you up front. If more than one sponsor buys the same spot, the banners take turns in a fair rotation (a few seconds each), and the order shuffles for every visitor so nobody hogs first position. Before you pay, the form shows exactly how many sponsors you'd be joining — or that the spot is all yours. Your stats count only your banner's actual appearances and clicks, so your numbers are always yours alone.

Wide works best: about 1600×260 pixels, as a JPG, PNG, or WebP under 4 MB. But don't stress the exact shape — when you choose your file, the form shows a live preview of exactly how it will look on the site. Squarish images display centered over a soft blur of themselves (it looks sharp, promise), and the preview tells you if a wider export would fill the space better. The only shape we can't run is portrait — taller than wide — and the form will let you know before you pay.

Lucky you — those come straight from the site owner. Scan the QR (or open the link) and you'll land on the Advertise page with your code already applied. Sign in or create a free account — your code follows you through — then upload your banner and submit. No payment step at all. Your free days start as soon as your banner is approved.

No — subscriptions are just the best deal, not the only door. See how many local candidates match your skills for free, then choose your size: a single resume download, a 5-pack, a 10-pack, or an unlimited 30-day pass — current prices are right on the Find Candidates page. A paid directory plan still includes unlimited downloads forever, along with your full business profile and deals. And once you've downloaded a resume, re-downloading it later never costs another credit.

Once a year, the county votes for its favorites — best restaurant, best mechanic, and more — right here on the site. During voting season, open the Best of Elko page, find each category, and pick the local business you love (they're all from our directory). One vote per category per person, and you can change your mind any time before voting closes. Winners get a gold badge on their listing for the year — decided by neighbors, not by us.
