The Mine Safety and Health Administration is the federal agency that regulates safety and health in U.S. mines. Nearly everyone who works on a mine site — including many contractors and vendors — falls under its training requirements. Their official site is the source of truth for current rules.

Before working at a mine, new miners complete required safety training (commonly called "new miner training"), with annual refreshers after that. Employers often provide or arrange it; local providers also offer courses. Ask any employer what training they require and provide.
🏔️Surface vs. Underground
Northern Nevada has both large open-pit (surface) operations and underground mines. The work, schedules, and training differ — surface roles often involve haul trucks and heavy equipment; underground roles have their own certifications and environment. Job postings say which type.
