Privacy Policy
How Elko Local collects, uses, shares and protects your information.
Last updated Oct 16, 2026
Effective date: October 16, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how elkolocal.com and the Elko Local mobile app (bundle ID com.elkolocal.app), together the "Service," collect, use, share, and protect information. The Service is operated by Elko Local, PO Box 8206, Spring Creek, NV 89815 ("we," "us"). The mobile app shows the elkolocal.com website, so this policy covers both.
1. Information you give us
- Account information: your name, email address, and password when you create an account. Passwords are stored in hashed form by WordPress. If social sign-in is turned on, we receive basic profile details (such as name and email) from that provider.
- Resumes and job seeker information: when you add a resume to the talent pool at /my-resume/, we store the resume file and the details in it, and we tag it by skills. Local employers can see how many resumes match chosen skills at /find-candidates/. Businesses with a paid Elko Local directory plan can download matching resumes, including any contact details you put in them. Only include information you are comfortable sharing with local employers.
- Job posts: the employer details and job information you enter. Job posts are public.
- Classified ads, garage sales, and events: titles, descriptions, prices, photos, dates, and contact details you choose to include. These posts are public.
- Garage sale addresses: the address you enter for a garage sale is shown publicly on the garage sale map and list so shoppers can find it. Visitors can add it to a route that opens in Google Maps. Do not post a sale address you do not want made public.
- Business directory listings and claims: business name, address, phone, website, hours, and photos. Listings are public.
- Photos: images you upload to photo sharing or with a post are public. Photos taken on phones can contain embedded location data (EXIF); please remove it before uploading if you do not want it shared.
- Advertising accounts: if you set up a banner ad, we store the ad content and the related account and business details.
- Messages to us: anything you send by email or form.
2. Information collected automatically
- Server logs: like most websites, our host (Hostinger) records technical data such as IP address, browser type, pages requested, and time of request, for security and operations.
- Cookies: WordPress sets cookies needed to keep you signed in (including a "remember me" option) and to protect forms. Based on our review of the site on October 16, 2026, we do not use advertising cookies, Google Analytics, or third-party tracking pixels. If you choose a town for the weather forecast, a small cookie (ewx_town) remembers that choice on your device; it does not identify you and is not used for tracking.
- Ad statistics: we count views and clicks on banner ads shown on the site so advertisers can see their results.
- Location for routing: if you tap "Start from my current location" on the garage sale map, your browser or device asks for permission and uses your location to build a route. We do not use location unless you choose this.
3. Third-party services we use
The Service loads content from these providers, which may receive your IP address and browser details when you view pages:
- Hostinger (web hosting and content delivery).
- Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com), which provides the site's typefaces.
- unpkg.com, which delivers the Leaflet map software.
- OpenStreetMap (tile.openstreetmap.org for map images, and nominatim.openstreetmap.org for turning addresses into map locations). Garage sale and directory addresses may be sent to Nominatim for this.
- Google Maps, only when you choose to open a route there. Google's privacy policy then applies.
- Social sign-in providers (if offered), such as Google or Facebook, when you choose to use them.
- Payment processor: companies pay for job posts, directory plans, and advertising. Payments are handled by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers; we receive payment confirmation and limited billing details.
Each of these providers has its own privacy policy. We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. How we use information
- To run your account and show the posts, listings, resumes, and photos you submit.
- To let employers find local candidates as described above.
- To process payments and provide paid features.
- To send account emails, such as password resets and important notices.
- To keep the Service safe, prevent spam and fraud, enforce our Community Guidelines, and follow the law.
5. The mobile app and push notifications
The app displays elkolocal.com inside the app, so the same information practices apply. The app does not collect your contacts, photos, or location in the background. If you upload a photo, the app asks for access to your photo library or camera only at that time. If the app offers push notifications, it will ask for your permission first. We then store a device token used to send notifications, and you can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
6. When we share information
- Publicly, for content you choose to post (ads, garage sales including addresses, events, jobs, listings, photos).
- With paying employers, for resumes in the talent pool as described above.
- With service providers who help us run the Service (listed in section 3).
- When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users, the public, or us.
- With a successor if the Service is sold or transferred, subject to this policy.
7. How long we keep information
- Account information: until you delete your account.
- Posts: until you delete them, they expire, or your account is deleted.
- Resumes: until you remove your resume or delete your account. Copies that employers have already downloaded are outside our control.
- Payment records: kept as long as needed for tax and accounting, typically up to 7 years.
- Server logs and backups: removed on our host's normal schedule, usually within 30 days.
8. Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account and personal data as described on our Delete Your Account page at https://elkolocal.com/delete-account/, or by emailing admin@elkolocal.com.
9. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact admin@elkolocal.com and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use HTTPS, hashed passwords, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by Nevada law (NRS 603A) and other applicable law.
11. Nevada privacy rights
We do not sell covered information as defined in NRS 603A.340. Nevada residents may still send a request asking us not to sell their covered information to admin@elkolocal.com, and we will respond within 60 days as required.
12. California privacy rights
If California law applies to us, California residents may ask to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; ask us to correct or delete it; and opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. Send requests to admin@elkolocal.com. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post the new version here with a new effective date, and if changes are significant we will give notice on the site or by email.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
